Our Emergency and Critical Care Team
Members of our veterinary medical team have special training. certification and experience in emergency and critical care veterinary services. Staff members are gentle with their animal patients, giving words of comfort, loving strokes, and even a few scratches behind the ear.
Dr Signe Plunkett is the Medical Director for the Emergency Animal Clinic. Dr Plunkett has 21 year’s experience in veterinary emergency and critical care. Dr Plunkett is the author of the textbook “Emergency Procedures for the Small Animal Veterinarian “ which serves as a guideline for veterinary emergency and critical care centers worldwide.
Dr Diane Paster is the Assistant Medical Director for the Emergency Animal Clinics. Dr Paster is Board Certified in General Practice and has been an emergency and critical care practitioner for 6 years.
Dr. Raegan Wells is a graduate of Colorado State University, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (2004). She completed an internship in general medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego in 2005, followed by her emergency/critical care medicine residency and Master’s degree at Colorado State University, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in 2008.
A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical care, Dr. Wells’ special interests include polytrauma, disorders of coagulation, pulmonary pathology, mechanical ventilation and responsible use of antimicrobials in the critically ill. Dr. Wells has specialized training in advanced procedures such as mechanical ventilation, peritoneal dialysis, transfusion medicine, intravenous nutrition, placement of central lines, emergency surgical procedures and care of the post-operative patient.
While at Colorado State University, Dr. Wells actively participated in the training of 3rd and 4th year professional veterinary students and interns. Dr. Wells received the 2008 Pfizer Clinical Resident of the Year for her outstanding clinical and teaching activities. Her clinical research focused on the role of the immune system in dogs with abnormal blood clots. Dr. Wells has authored scientific journal articles and has established a critical care internship program and providing specialized care for critically ill dogs and cats at the EAC.
Dr. Wells is available for emergency consultations and referrals. She is a member of the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care.
